The Slave and the Lion

Once upon a time, there was a kind slave named Jack. He ran down from his master because he was treated poorly. Jack hid in the forest. One day, while walking in the forest, he heard a loud roar.

He saw a big lion coming toward him! Jack was scared, but the lion did not attack. The lion was limping and looked in pain. Jack saw that the lion had a big thorn in his paw. Carefully, Jack pulled out the thorn. The lion roared, but also licked Jack’s hand to say thank you. They became friends.

Later, some soldiers set up Jack and took him back to the city. He was put in prison. The king said he must fight a wild lion in the arena.

On the day of the fight, a lion was let into the arena. But guess what? It was the same lion that Jack had helped! The lion ran to Jack and licked his hands. The people were surprised. They told the king what had happened. The king was surprised and set both Jack and the lion free. And they lived happily ever later.
