The Princess and the Peacock

Long ago, in a grand Mughal fort in Lahore, there lived Princess Roshanara. She was kind and loved nature, but she often felt lonely. Most days, she sat near her window, watching the royal gardens.

In the same garden lived a peacock named Kesar. His feathers shone like a rainbow, but because of one crooked tail feather, the other peacocks laughed at him. So, Kesar stayed alone and quiet.

One hot afternoon, Kesar was very thirsty. He went to drink water from a small pond, but a thorny bush blocked his way. While trying to pass, a sharp thorn pricked his leg. Kesar cried out in pain.

Hearing his cry, Princess Roshanara rushed down from her room. She gently moved the bush aside, removed the thorn, and gave him cool water from her silver cup.

Kesar looked at the princess with deep gratitude. From the next morning, he began visiting her window every day. He would spread his feathers and dance just for her.

The princess was no longer lonely, and Kesar was no longer shy. Their friendship became an example for the whole kingdom — showing that love and kindness are more valuable than gold.
